The 2018 Holy Cross of Matanao Oralympics
After a decade the Holy Cross of Matanao together with the HCM Literary Circle Club and their moderator Jeffrey Belarmino brought back the amazing feeling of having an Oral Competition. Students who participated in the Oralympics must boost their confidence in answering the questions thrown to them. The contestants in Extemporaneous Speaking answered wisely the questions such as: What is extrajudicial killing? What is bullying? Are you in favor of same sex marriage legalization in the Philippines? Why do we celebrate thanksgiving? Can online games kill the future? and What is the risk of radiation in the future generation? In Spoken Word Poetry the contestants poetically spoke about the piece that they’ve chosen and memorized. Topics in the Spoken Word Poetry included God, Friendship and Acceptance. In Impromptu Speaking the topics included: What is your concern for the future?, If you were an animal what animal will you be? Health is Wealth, Intelligence is not enough, If I ruled the world, and When I grow up. But the highlight of the competition was the declamation entitled “Land of Bondage Land of the Free” by Raul S. Manlapus. The program ended with everybody entertained and at the same time challenged to harness their skills in speaking English. (Sunshine Ricaplaza | SUGID)
