Digos Writing Workshop 2018

What is your role in this media-saturated society?

Here’s sharing to you the outputs from the writeshop conducted in St Mary’s Academy last November 3, 2018. The event was sponsored by the Diocese of Digos Commission on Social Communications. (Blaze Q. Cantaros, Sugid SoCCom)

“As a youth, I believe my role is of two angles. The positive and the negative angles. On the positive side, we are the source of information and communication. On the negative side, we can be the source of conflicts if we are not responsible. I chose the latter because I learned today the value of becoming a member of a catholic press that spreads only good news.” – Bobby L. Tablo Jr., St. John Paul II Sub Parish, Inawayan

“Being a part of this media-saturated society, I take the role of being a responsible media user. Writing for a publication gives you great power and with that comes a great responsibility. I will use the media for goodness, I will use it as a voice of Christianity and youth.” – Jermelle Faith Viola, St. Mary’s Academy, Sta. Cruz

“Social Media’s rapid advancements present new opportunities for the youth. It can cause positive and negative impacts. Youth nowadays have no time to reflect. Maybe what I can do is to take my time, to think deeply about certain issues in order to avoid spreading the fake news. Since media has the power to create or ruin, I chose to play the part of a media that create and build. I want to become a “good news” media practitioner.” – Shara Malissa Hatusa, St. John Paul II, Inawayan

“As a beginning journalist, I won’t favour and tolerate nonsense information and fake news. The information and good public opinion should start from me. I should learn to identify the issues that contribute and not break. As a Catholic media, I become a watchdog that promotes moral entertainment, moral information and provide a good experience to the readers.” – Eugene O. Sarga, St. John Paul II, Inawayan

“As the media today creates a world that’s based on public opinions, teens now are more exposed to violence and sex than previous generation. My role is to establish boundaries to help our kids understand nthe goodness of media and the consequences it might bring us.” – Jonie Ann Albores Orcullo, St. John Paul II Sub Parish, Inawayan

“As a youth who is honestly very active in different media platforms, my main role or objective is to become a “Youth for Truth”, powered with positivity and goodwill. I will strive to possess the wisdom to weigh things right and spread only the truth. Responsible youth for today’s media-saturated society isn’t limited to using the media but also learning how to manage it.” – Glenn C. Miculob, St. John Paul II, Inawayan

“Media is the center point on how youth form their identities. Today, media increases the tension of the youth. Every youngster has a hand to provide and share good knowledge. The youth of today must uphold leadership to facilitate positive direction inasmuch as the social media is concerned.” – Enimicio M. Duhilag, St. John Paul II, Inawayan
