Mary Mediatrix Parish reaches 67
August 22, 2018, Digos City closed down a portion of the main street fronting the cathedral to make room for the vehicles’ parking, provide less nuisance during the ongoing masses inside the cathedral and allowing a peaceful walk to the cathedral from a few meters up. A student band is heard playing upbeat music to greet the cheerful parishioners on their way to the cathedral. The parishioners slowly and gleefully made their way inside.
The mass which everyone await was the one at 9:30 AM with the CBCP president and the Archdiocese of Davao Archbishop Romulo Valles DD. The entrance hymn started to play and the entourage of Archdiocesan Bishop Valles emerged from the back door. Along with him was Bishop Guillermo Afable, the Bishop of the Diocese of Digos and Bishop Collin Bagaforo of the Diocese of Kidapawan. Also present at the altar with him were Rev. Fr. Marvin Zamora, Rev. Fr. Christopher Ganzon and Rev. Fr. Kim Cossid.
The homily which was delivered by Abp. Valles emphasized the importance of a mother in the family and the crippling effect without such. One part of the homily he delivered was the miracle that happened in Cana, when a wedding was taking place and the host were running out of wine, a situation who could have placed the host in such a disgrace. But who can say no to a mother? Jesus reminded his Mother that it was not time for him yet to fulfill a miracle but with Mary’s pleading, Jesus compelled. This is one symbol of Mary’s greatness as the Mother of the church.
The mass ended and the people were invited to join the parish for a lunch. The lunch venue took place in the different locations inside the vicinity of the church. After sharing the food, the parishioners gathered themselves at the auditorium for a sociocultural presentation which lasted for a couple of hours. Masses were also given at 3PM with Fr. Bong Lunas of the St. Joseph Parish presiding, and 4PM and 5PM respectively. The whole celebration was a huge success to the parishioners and the priests charges. (Blaze Cantaros)
