Bigger Museo Dabawenyo eyed at People’s Park

The Committee on Rules, Privileges, Laws, and Ordinances chaired by Councilor Melchor B. Quitain reported the proposed signing of Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the City Government and the National Museum amid the eyed construction of a new and bigger Museo Dabawenyo set to be constructed at People’s Park, Palma Gil Street.

The committee report stipulates that the City Government shall shoulder the expenses for the activities relative to the technical assistance to be rendered by the National Museum.

In the proposed MOA, the National Museum, shall provide basic museum administration and management, through seminars, trainings, mentoring, and coaching activities, education and familiarization tours.

Particularly, the National Museum is set to provide for the enhancement of the existing museum policies and protocols, proper distribution of museum spaces according to existing exhibitions, and development of a Collections Management Manual and an Operations Manual.

It is further provided that the National Museum shall develop and improve the museum facilities and exhibitions, provide for preventive conservation of museum artifacts and other materials or documents, provide for staff development activities, create dynamic and responsive museum programs, and conceptualize activities to raise additional funds for the museum.

The Office of the President has granted a P100 Million funding for the construction of the said museum to address the need for a wider area to accommodate its increasing number of guests and collections, as well as to cluster City Government owned tourism-related facilities for the benefit and convenience of the general public.

The design and specifications of the said building is still finalized and shall be at par with the other museums in the country. (Julianne A. Suarez)
