“Walk with Mary, Mother of Vocation”
DAVAO CITY—In celebration of the Year of the Clergy and Consecrated Persons, the Latin Mass Society of Davao held the Traditional Pilgrimage for the fourth time last August 25, 2018 with the theme, “Walk with Mary, Mother of Vocations,” as the Blessed Virgin is the epitome of all vocations and the star of the new evangelization.
Along with the primary cause of promoting the sense of the sacred and the Extraordinary Form, the 4th Catholic Traditional Pilgrimage focuses on vocations to the religious life with the goal of encouraging the attending students, and young professionals to consider the consecrated life. The event is also attended by religious men and women who promoted their respective congregations.
The Pilgrimage would be traditional in the sense that pilgrims would walk distance as they visit different churches through candlelight procession. Registration started at 12PM at the Archdiocesan Shrine of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary. The pilgrims made the Sacred Walk from the Shrine to St. Mary’s Parish, to Sacred Heart of Jesus, to Sta. Ana Shrine and finally to San Pedro Cathedral. The sacred walk culminated with a Solemn High Mass in the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite at the main altar of the San Pedro Cathedral, Davao City. The entire mass was covered live on Facebook via DXGN 89.9 Spirit FM.
The event was organized with the hope of helping the local Church in simple ways the group can under the guidance of their spiritual director, Rev. Fr. Russell A. Bantiles. Visiting priests assisting the pilgrimage were Msgr. Eugenio G. Reyes, Rector of the Metropolitan Cathedral of San Fernando, San Fernando, Pampanga, Rev. Fr. Joseph Skelton of the Diocese of Tagbilaran, and Fr. Rodel Lopez of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate. (Frances Celine Alvaira, LMSD)
