The “I” in sin and pride
This is a significant statement which many understand. There are several ways of understanding it.
The “I” or the ego is the self. Endless and exaggerated reference to it is a sin of selfishness. Psychologists call it egoism and its tendencies egotistic.
The sin of pride hides the reference to self-importance. This is popularly called the bloated “I”or the self-servient or self-sufficient “me”. Its relative is called vanity, a show-off in simple term. It the selfish person looks down on others it is called arrogance.
So it can said that sin or pride exists because of the “I”.
