Rising Prices

Rising prices of commodities now are making lives of people very difficult. Those who are mostly affected are the poor, the so-called lower middle class of society. Many cannot even have three meals a day. And even if they can have two or just one, the amount has decreased and the kind of food is not healthy. Other effects are malnourishment and undernourishment. All of which cause sickness, depression, illnesses and death. Aggravating the situation are shortages of jobs and very low salaries among different income brackets.

Who will rollback the rising prices? Government and big business, of course. Appealing and demanding for this rollback are the cause-oriented groups. Also, some journalist, newspaper columnists and social and political analysts do clamor for rollback. But do Government and Big Business listen and respond? They do. But not enough.

The private sector, the schools, churches, NGO’s etc. — those in the middle and upper classes — are concerned and are doing something but not enough. Why? Because they are not well organized locally, regionally and nationally.

Last Sunday’s gospel on Jesus Christ’s feeding 5,000 people with 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish contributed by a small boy at the bidding of Andrew reminds us, who are ignorant of high economics and the economic system of the Government and Big Business, that organized and collective sharing of small things can do wonders. And this is easily possible if there a human and religious (Indigenous, Buddhist, Christian and Islamic) motivation.

For us Christians, there should be an organized group of Andrews and of Little but Generous and Humble People with their little something who would be doing this with the Holy Spirit and the Blessed Virgin Mary in order to bring them to Jesus the Divine Mercy who is suffering in the distressing disguise of the poor. They are those who are consecrated to Mary the mother of Jesus. This what I mean by Christian motivation and context.
