CBCP Prexy: Share Marian devotion to young people
DAVAO CITY—The President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) is hoping that the devotion to the Blessed Mother will not end with the elders but passed on to the younger generations.
During the 11th Marian Congress and Procession of the Archdiocese of Davao last May 26, CBCP President and Archbishop of Davao Romulo G. Valles said he hopes that the younger generation will get involved in the preparations and in holding the future Marian congress and processions in the Archdiocese.
“We are blessed in Davao. We have a strong devotion to our Blessed Mother,” Valles said in his homily after the procession held at the San Pedro Cathedral.
Around 50 images of the Blessed Mother carried through their respective carroza were seen during the procession that started in Ateneo de Davao University going to the Cathedral.
This tradition was started by the Archdiocesan Council of Lay Associations and Integrated Movements (ACLAIM) in Davao.
“We manifest our faith through our devotion with our Blessed Mother,” the archbishop said, adding: “I hope it will continue on and on.”
Never forget Mary
The archbishop said that in reciting the Creed, one must believe fully and never forget the role of the Blessed Mother.
He added that to forget the Blessed Mother means that one is a “half-baked” Catholic.
“We can’t articulate our faith if Mary is not included,” Valles said.
Showing one’s faith
The archbishop thanked the devotees present for showing their faith through their participation in the 11th Grand Marian Procession.
“I hope we will be consistent in doing the will of the Lord,” he said.
He also added that Mary will continue to be their mother, bringing them closer to Jesus.
