Honor thy mother
The month of May is special for mothers as we celebrate mother’s day every 2nd Sunday of this month. During this occasion mothers get to be appreciated by their children and husbands for all the things they have done for their loved ones.
Mothers play a vital role in the family. As partners of their husbands in keeping their family together, they look into the welfare of their children. Not only that they also cater to the needs of their husbands. Mothers, may they be working, housewife, widow or single parent each has their own experiences and stories to tell with regard to taking good care of their family. Their roles and sacrifices are indeed worth appreciating.
On another note, here’s some inspirational thoughts about single mothers by Maricel Laxa-Pangilinan from her book Mommy Talk where she said “that not all women or mothers have partners who can support them in their travails. At the end of the day, there is no knights to rest in, to share the deepest longings of their hearts and to fight out issues that will strengthen their souls or nourish the part of their child that longs to be filled only by a father. I salute the women who chose to have their children, even if it means carrying the burden all alone against all odds but with a hopeful spirit that they will make it through. Some of you have weathered divorces, a death of a husband, teenage pregnancy or a separation. You are special and you better believe it!”
Furthermore, Ms. Laxa-Pangilinan said, “May the grace of God increase ever more. Savor the joy of knowing He loves you and is a willing and able Husband to you. In the meantime, enjoy your single life and treasure the gift you have been given through your children for you know that they are your crowns.”
May single mothers find solace on the above thoughts in times of desolation.
Also during mother’s day, let us remember our Blessed Mother Mary who was entrusted by Jesus to one of his disciples at the foot of the cross who eventually became the mother of us all. Let us give her our adulation by praying the rosary daily. Through the rosary we offer her our thanksgiving for all the answered prayers and likewise pray for our various intentions.
May we mothers look up to Mama Mary as our example on how to become the kind of mother one should be. Let us honor our dear mothers not only during mother’s day but everyday of our lives. Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers out there!
