Flowers for Mary

Filipino tradition calls for the celebration of Flores de Mayo every month of May and here in the Archdiocese of Davao, Mary’s role in the history of salvation is given more emphasis.

On its second year, the Archdiocesan Marian Exhibit was once again staged at the Abreeza Ayala Mall, May 21-25.

Different images of the Blessed Mother were on display, bringing her closer to where many people go—the malls.

The Marian exhibit was also staged as the Church celebrates the Year of the Clergy and Consecrated Persons.

Through a series of talks, the faithful were enjoined to listen and learn about the different roles of Mary in the story of salvation.

Speakers from priests to religious and lay faithful shared their insights about Mary—as a mother and as a queen to the apostles and to the Church every day during the course of the exhibit. The talks were followed by a Holy Mass.

It can be noted that the Grand Marian Procession was also held, May 26, with different Marian organizations and transparochial communities participating in the procession of the different images of the Blessed Mother.

DXGN 89.9 also organized a prayer of the Holy Rosary with children leading and participating in the prayer for the whole month of May.

The GKKs or Gagmay’ng Kristohanong Katilingban have also continued the tradition of Flores de Mayo wherein a catechesis for children throughout the entire month of May is done. Every morning, children bring Flowers for Mary and offer them during the conclusion of their daily class.
