Opening Mass of 19th Serra Asian Convention 2018
April 13, 2018 @ St. Joseph the Worker Parish, Sasa, Davao City
Theme: Promotion of Vocation for the Evangelization in Asia
“We are just secondary actors, let us remind ourselves that it is the Lord who calls. We allow the Lord to be heard… We don’t pretend to be the one calling…”
“The work of mission is bringing of the good news… We in the Serra Club would like that good news to be brought to others in mission and that good news, I hope and pray would somehow reflect in our lives as we promote vocations.”
In the evangelization in Asia… “The Lord wants the good news of Himself, His presence in our midst to be preached, He wants that to be pointed out to us the people of today especially in Asia.”

Opening Mass of the Vicars for the Clergy National Convention
April 9, 2018 @ San Pedro Cathedral
Theme: Renewed Servant-Leaders for the new evangelization
“Lord forgive us for not caring enough for our clergy but I think of you Vicars for the Clergy representing your poor Bishops, frail Bishops, limited Bishops, and you are there to assist us in caring for our Priests. This is an occasion not just because I’m the Archbishop of Davao, the President of CBCP but personally thank you so much for being with us as Bishops, again in helping in very delicate and important task in taking care of our Priests.”
Three realities from the readings related to our Priests and to us given the job in caring for our brother Priests:
- To take seriously the role of a Priest in a Christian Community as proclaimers of the good news
- To rediscover a sense of sacrifice
- To see our giftedness as Priests
“In Priesthood, there is only one deal, one source of joy: Our Yes to the Lord.”
“To be happy is doing the will of God and the will of the Church no matter what happens below. I think it takes a lot of time praying, meditating and kneeling in silence. If we can just recover that, I think together as Priests and Bishops, we would be well.”
“We come to this Eucharist, because in the end, it is He who called us, who can see our hearts even if many times we don’t even understand ourselves. And we pray to Him, to the Lord Jesus, our high Priest that He would guide us and bless us, Vicars for the Clergy to help our brother Priests, to help your Bishops so that the pressure that immense beyond telling gift of the priesthood in us and in our brother Priests would be kept so loved, so appreciated by each one.”
