A Wedding Unlike Any Other
On Monday the 26th of February, 2018, a wedding was held in St. Francis of Assisi Parish. This wedding, however, was quite different and unique for it was not a wedding organized by the couples themselves. It was a wedding put together by an entire school.
The SPC sisters, teachers, parents and students in St. Paul College of Davao worked together to make the wedding of two of their employees come to life. Ian, a guard at St. Paul College of Davao, with his significant other, Evamae, and Sheryl, a worker in the canteen, along with her beloved Teogenio. The Paulinians spent lots of time and effort to make the double wedding happen. Everybody in SPCD took over every aspect — from biggest things to the tiniest of details of what was to be done: the decorations, the sponsors, the reception, and the like. Everyone worked as a team to make the wedding of two couples happen, and all the efforts certainly did pay off, for in the end, the whole event passed by seamlessly, and the two couples radiated happiness and love.
This spirit of community is so catchy that it inspired the parish priest of St. Francis of Assisi, Fr. Emmanuel Gonzaga to help in expediting the necessary requirements of the wedding. Other priests also helped in the process like Fr. Romeo Castillo, Fr. Albert Bernal, SSP, Fr. Rene Tanieza, SSP and Fr. Loreto Bastasa.
This year is the Year of the Clergy and Consecrated Persons. This event partly serves as a call to all Churches in the country to be one community and this wedding is the perfect example of that community of people working hand in hand with each other to make someone else’s dreams come true.
In his letter to the Corinthians, St. Paul had once written, “Three things will last forever—faith, hope, love—and the greatest of these is love.” And we, Paulinians, having him as our patron saint, definitely try to always live out these words. (Alexandria Simeone U. Velasco)
