Nuing Mission Station mark its 16th fiesta
Nuing is a barangay in the municipality of Jose Abad Santos (JAS) in the newly created province of Davao Occidental. It is home to the Nuing Mission Station which was established by the PME Fathers in the late 1970s. Since then a few diocesan clergy and the OFM Capuchin have administered the NMS. Since October 2014, the Davao Redemptorist Mission Community has taken over NMS’ administration and at present Fr. Bong Puzon, CSsR is the Priest in-charge assisted by Fr. Raymond Nagu, CSsR .
Last January 21, 2018 Barangay Nuing celebrated its 16th fiesta in honor of the Infant Jesus (Sto. Nino). A dawn procession was held a day before the fiesta. The fiesta mass was celebrated by no less than the Bishop of the Diocese of Digos, Bishop Guillermo Afable, D.D. who came a day earlier to administer Confirmation to 16 Lumad teens.
During Confirmation the Bishop gave three-fold messages in his homily: That the newly confirmed should always remember that: 1. Ako anak sa Dios (I am a child of God), 2. Ako templo sa Espiritu Santo (I am the temple of the Holy Spirit), 3. Ako Simbahan (I am the Church)… For his fiesta mass’ homily, the Bishop reiterated the same three-fold message but added a fourth one. 4. Ako si Kristo (I am Christ), for it is through our partaking of the Body of Christ in the Holy Eucharist that we become Christ. And that we should always live our Christian life following the example of the Sto Nino, “for unless you turn and become like children you cannot enter the kingdom of heaven.” Viva Sr. Sto. Nino!
