Abp. Valles to Church Ministers: “Work with the Love of Christ”

DAVAO CITY — Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) President Most. Rev. Abp. Romulo Valles in an interview during the celebration of the 7th Parochial Feast of the Virgen Delos Remedios at Crossing Bayabas, Toril urges Church Ministers to work and be empowered by the Love of Christ to succeed in their evangelical works.

Abp. Valles said that the Love of Christ urges us to act or Caritas Christi Urget Nos; that is the reason why we work for the ministry – that we are full of His love and we know that God also loves His people, and that He cares for them too and that what drives us to work for His cause.

“(We should) intensify our works of mercy kana bang – labi na nang mangadto sa mga evacuation centers; ngano nia man mo? Ang atong rason kay nagtuo mi sa Ginoo nga palangga mo sa Ginoo, tungod sa Ginoo nia mi… kana makamata gayud na (sa usa ka tawo),” he said.

He added that the church ministers should not be just mere merciful beings, but it is important also that the people should see or realize that Christ is the reason as to why they are doing works of mercy and compassion.

“Dili lang ka ordinaryo na tao na manggiluy-on okay mana but they would realize nga mura bag the Love of Christ urges us to action, so kanang mga buhat nato sa kaluoy kon Community Work pero Kristo ang dating,” he explained.

According to Abp. Valles, going to Church every week or every Holy Mass is the touch base of our faith – with this he encouraged Parish Priest’s to study the Word of God well, that they should deliver it with sureness and conviction so that it will be interesting, inducing and truly inspiring. He also acknowledged how big the work that is being tasked to the Parishes and to the Ministers on it.

Abp. Valles also urged the Ministers to be more attractive and appealing and to avoid into creating a divisive atmosphere between them and the lay people saying, “Kanang duol pud sa mga Pari kanang sa Parokya, kanang mga taga simbahan na hinaot unta na attractive ta na welcoming ta mao nang ingon ni Pope Francis, mura bitaw kanang dili ta murag circle sa mga okay na, unya ayaw (namo ug labot) – mura bag lisud-lisuron nato ang mga taga-gawas instead of – bahalag dili perfect pasudlon nato, murag hesitant sila muduol kay kuyaw kaayo ta Santos kay ta o murag kanang exclusive kaayo sa mga okay (na). Primero, ang Eucharist unya ang circle sa Simbahan welcoming unta pud dili kay sa mura bag makatan-aw lang kay kuyaw kaayo mi,” he said.

The work of evangelization is given unto the Church Ministers and that they should dwell more unto the Word of God and should also work with the Love of Christ in order to successfully advance the Church’s mission of evangelization, this is the challenge stressed by Abp.
