The 18th Parochial Fiesta of San Francisco de Asis Parish – Tagakpan

Viva San Francisco! Viva!

An anonymous writer once said that the saints remind us that the Church is holy, can never stop being holy, and is called to show the holiness of God by living the life of Christ.” Saint Francis of Assisi is one of the saints that is known for his detachment to the world by following the footsteps of Christ and living in a world of simplicity. Up until now, he is remembered as the saint who, in his time, helped in proclaiming the good news of the Lord.

These wonderful qualities of Saint Francis were remembered by the parishioners of San Francisco de Asis Parish in Tagakpan as the whole barangay celebrated its 18th Parochial Fiesta last October 4.

The fiesta mass started at exactly 9:15 in the morning which was presided by the CBCP President and Archbishop of Davao, Abp. Romulo Valles, D.D. Moreover, the mass was also concelebrated by the priests of the Sacred Heart Vicariate, and the invited priests of the congregation of the Oblates of Saint Joseph.

According to Abp. Valles, celebrating the parochial feast day of saints is a very distinct tradition of the Filipino Catholics. It binds the people as one parish, which is also theme of the year of the parish as communion of communities. Thus, we must be thankful to the Lord for the graces that He showered upon us. We must also be thankful for the gift of faith – faith to the Church and to the saints.

“As we celebrate the feast day, we are given the graces of God. In this way, we will be able to live the life that Jesus lived, just like Saint Francis.” Abp. Valles added. (Jeffren P. Miguel, SFDA SoCCom)
