Calinan youth undergo servant leadership training

“A call to a Youth Servant Leader” was the theme of the Leadership Training conducted by The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish Calinan Youth Apostolate last August 20-21, 2017 at the parish seminar house for the Pangulo sa Batan-on (PSB) aimed to train them in becoming effective leaders of their respective Gagmayng Kristohanong Katilingban (GKK). It was attended by 126 participants.

On the first night, after the getting-to-know activity, was the film viewing entitled, “The Shack”. The values taken from the movie were forgiveness, love and faith. The activities were made on the following day and was taken from the theme that was divided into three: The Call, Youth Servant and Leader. The first activity, The Call, was about communication in which they were taught how important it is especially in being a leader. The second activity was how to become a Youth Servant, facing with problems and solving them with the help of the youth. The third activity was being a Leader, how strong one must be to lead the youth in the GKK. Mr. Romulo Peralta, an Officer of Lectors, Commentators, Cantors and Psalmist Apostolate (LCCP) and a head teacher of Saloy National High School shared his thoughts about the theme. He emphasized that being a youth leader, one must have a brave, loyal and loving heart to become effective and firm. He also reminded the PSBs that being a leader, life status does not matter as long as one possesses a heart of service, the willingness and the commitment to serve. During the event, the PSBs were also trained to value time and camaraderie.

“Based on the outcome of the event, I can say that we met the objective which is to train youth leaders. The activity was well-planned in order to give the best training to the GKK youth leaders of Calinan. With the grace given by the Almighty Father, together with the help and support of our Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Arnel P. Tadeo and Parochial Vicar, Rev. Fr. Raul L. Nieves, GKK leaders and the effort made by the Parish Youth Apostolate core group, another successful activity was made,” said PYA Coordinator, Noel Parado. “First, I can’t say that being a PSB is my call since I was just recommended by our GKK leader to become a PSB. On my second time in joining leadership training, I was enlightened. To be a leader, I just need to have a heart that is willing to serve. Through the activity, I was motivated to continually serve despite the hindrances. I don’t serve because I was recommended to become a leader but I serve because I love serving the Lord through the youth ministry,” said one of the participants from San Isidro Labrador Chapel District one Zone 5, Rhea Regine A. Malabote. The next activity of the PYA would be the Parish Day on October 2017. The first leadership training happened last November of 2015. (Gie Rhea Jadulco | TMSHJP SoCCom)
