Flores de Mayo culminates in St. Francis of Assisi Parish

After three weeks of attending the Flores de Mayo in their GKKs, more than 600 children joined in the culmination program which was held at the parish compound of St. Francis of Assisi whole day of May 23, Tuesday. This year’s theme: “Birhen Maria sa pag-alagad ug kahiusahan diha sa Gagmay’ng Kristohanong Katilingban” represents the 100th year of miracle of Fatima and Year of the Parish as Communion of Communities.

A living rosary opened the program which was followed by a flower-offering to the Blessed Mother at the altar. After which, a Holy Mass was officiated by the parish priest, Fr. Bong Gonzaga and Fr. Loreto Bastasa. Quiz bee, poster making, and essay writing were held in the afternoon where each zone sent its contestant in every category. During the program, zones presented numbers from selected children. Prizes were given for the winners of different contests and parlor games. School supplies were distributed to all, too.

The Flores de Mayo (Spanish for “flowers of May”) is a festival held in the Philippines in the month of May. It is one of the May devotions to the Blessed Virgin Mary and lasts for the entire month. (Pamela Millabe | SFAP SoCCom)
