Famous Aliwagwag Falls was not attacked (Official Statement)
DAVAO ORIENTAL — To set the record straight, the Provincial Government of Davao Oriental wishes to clarify and correct the reports that the majestic Aliwagwag Falls Eco Park, one of the premiere tourist destinations in the province, was recently attacked by Communist rebels. It is NOT the Aliwagwag Falls Eco Park that was being attacked by the rebels. The target of the rebel attack was a group of government troops being stationed away from the famous Aliwagwag Falls Eco Park. The rebels DID NOT attack the Aliwagwag Falls Eco Park which is always teeming with hundreds of tourists daily, both local and foreign. However, the military, in their indispensable efforts to win the peace, succeeded in thwarting the rebel attack that resulted in casualties on the rebel side.
This clarification is made to correct the reports on Aliwagwag Falls Eco Park, since a non-correction could potentially deal a big blow to the province’s tourism image. Despite the inaccurate reports, the Aliwagwag Falls Eco Park continues to draw many tourist,s both local and foreign, boosting the local economy. Provincial Tourism Officer Miguel Trocio reported that Davao Oriental has become the new beehive of ecotourism activities in the region, particularly to see the impressive coastal scenery, with awesome and serene beaches and islands. Even the national government has just declared the whole of Davao Oriental a tourism development area. (Source: Sr. Marietta Alo, OND)
