In-service training for religious mentors held
Forty (40) REED theologians from 18 Catholic schools in Davao, Digos, Tagum, and Mati (DADITAMA) convened at the Davao Association of Catholic Schools (DACS) for the in-service training last May 9-11, 2017 for the academic year 2017-2018.
Spearheaded by DACS Executive Director Jimmie-Loe Dela Vega, the said training aimed to orient the teachers on the theoretical and educational foundations in the field of religious education, to develop their skills in writing work text, integrating DACS religious education in the instructional materials and in the delivery of the lesson, preparing initial work text in religious education for basic education students (K to 12), formulating basis in designing assessment standards in REED and Christian Living Education (CLE) and enriching their knowledge and appreciation of Church’s directions, education trends, contexts and issues in REED and CLE.
Most of the guest speakers came from Cor Jesu College in Digos: Dr. Alex Niez, Ph.D., vice president for Academic Affairs gave the input on the Theoretical and Theological Foundations; Dr. Kirt Anthony Diaz, Ph.D., principal of Basic Education and director of Institutional Affairs, lectured on the 3 Is to mean Introduction, Interaction and Integration as a Learning Approach; and Dr. Randy Tudy, Ph.D., director of Research and Publication Office, gave the inputs on the Designing and Making a Book Blueprint.
Ms. Elsa Villanueva, academic coordinator of Junior High School of the Assumption College of Davao, shared about the Performance Standards and Assessments, and the Art of Questioning and Teaching Strategies.
At the onset, the in-service training was blessed with the presence of Bishop George B. Rimando, DD, who gave highlights on the “Year of the Parish as Communion of Communities” and keynotes on the “Gravissimum Educationis” vis-à-vis the religious education for basic education students.
The following Catholic schools participated in the said in-service training: Assumpta School of Tagum, Assumption Academy of Compostela, Assumption College of Davao, Ateneo de Davao University, Cor Jesu College, Davao Jones Academy, Holy Cross of Babak, Holy Cross of Davao College, Immaculate Heart of Mary Academy, Maryknoll College of Panabo, Maryknoll High School of New Corella, Maryknoll High School of Santo Tomas, North Davao Colleges, San Lorenzo College of Davao, San Pedro College Basic Education, Saint Michael’s School of Padada, Saint Vincent Academy of Maragusan, and University of the Immaculate Conception.
