Natural family planning: Correcting the myths is everybody’s business! (Part 2 of 2)
What’s wrong with contraception?
Contraception harms the individual user; harms babies; manipulates human nature; produces an anti-child mentality; leads to marriage breakdown; harms the whole community; harms the environment and is regarded as an “environmental pollutant” with the widely used hormonal contraceptives.
After the active ingredient in most birth control pills has done its duty preventing pregnancy, it begins a second life as a pollutant that can harm wildlife in waterways. Not only is ethinyl estradiol quite potent — creating “intersex” fish and amphibians — but it is very difficult to remove from wastewater, which carries it into natural waterways.
The Beauty of NFP
NFP upholds the dignity of women. It calls the attention of men to the reality and beauty of periodic abstinence in marriage, where a wife can be considered a true and genuine friend and not just a sex object.
It brings out the reality that intimacy is not always expressed through genital sexuality, but more so through gentleness, caring, consideration, understanding, communication, a simple hug, a tender touch, etc. This kind of relationship has honed the virtues of self-control, fidelity, mutual respect, consideration, and most of all mutual trust. Indeed, being the master of passion rather than a slave of passion is the secret of fidelity and loyalty between spouses. (Manilee Araune, M.D.)
