Immaculate Conception
Today’s solemnity started to be known since the 7th century as the “Conception of Mary by St. Anne”. While Pope Clement XI established this solemnity through his Bull, Commissi Nobis in 1708, it was Pope Pius XII who declared it to be the Principal Patroness of the Philippines in 1942.
Although this particular gift of being conceived without sin is peculiar to Mary, each of us is called to ponder on our call to refrain from anything that leads us away from God. It is our constant challenge to follow the path of goodness through obedience so that we may be free from disorders. Vices, pleasures, prestige, power and worldly allurement easily lead us to sin. But God has empowered us to say “yes” to His daily invitation to let Him enter into our lives.
As we prepare for Jesus’ coming, may we be cleansed from our sinful inclination through the inspiration and intercession of Mama Mary.
