October 30 is Prison Awareness Sunday. Let us learn a lesson from this rap sent to us through an ACPW volunteer.

Dear KNOT,

This rap is composed by a young inmate of Davao City Jail-Main: story of his life as a “barrio lad looking for a better life in the big city only to go with the wrong crowd thus end up in jail.”

He and two other inmates “rapped” this song as intermission number during the Bukas Palad “Huni sa Kagawasan” mini-Concert inside DCJ-Main last Sept 18, 2016. He himself wrote this on a piece of paper after the concert and gave it to me for publication of his simple message: God has a purpose and a good plan for everyone. (Marian Raquel, ACPW volunteer)

“JAILHOUSE RAP”

Tawagin nyo akong Joemar apelyido ay Hilario
Hayaan n’yong ikwento ang sinapit na sinaryo
Hindi n’yo narinig sa radio naitala sa dyaryo
Namuhay sa siyudad pero nagmula sa baryo.

At ang napala ko simple lang naman
Ngayon ay nakakulong, pariwara na naman
Usap-usapan sa tindahan ang bagong lutong tinapay
Mas mainit sa kape ang isyu “Bay, murag na’y lamay.”

Puro negatibo ang naririnig kong ulat
Kumalat ang balita at lahat nagulat
Masama naba sa tenga kung may nagawang mali
Katibayan ay di sapat, pero dina nakauwi.

At tinanggap ko ang hamon nagpatangay sa alon
Sa hampas ng pagsubok alam kong makakaahon
Ako’y muling babangon at balewala ang posas
Tibay lang ng loob mas matibay to sa rehas.

Kahit tinangay ng hangin ang aking kinabukasan
Nilamon ng mundo ang lahat ng pinaghirapan
Siya’y may dahilan kung bakit nagyari yon
Alam kong may plano ang Diyos kung bakit nagkagano’n.
