OSB sister teaches kids to pray
One of the most challenging part of being sent in a mission is to introduce one self. For Sr. M. Scholastica Wang, OSB, her entry to Bigue 2 and 3, Mati, Davao Oriental became easy as she started winning the hearts of the children.
According to her, he first met 11 children in Bigue 2; the youngest was 4 years old. “He had a wound on his left upper head and he wore a hat to cover it. The oldest is a 12 year-old boy. Since it was the first time that we met, we had a ‘Getting to Know You Activity.’ They introduced their names and their ages and other information they could say about themselves.”
While in Bigue 3, Sr. Wang added, “I met 12 children, boys and girls. The youngest is a two-year old girl. Since it was a Saturday, the children did not have classes. They helped their mothers in washing their families’ clothes. Some of them helped their fathers mend their fishing nets on the boat. Some children were running and playing around their houses.
Sr. Wang gathered them near the sea and told them a Bible story. “I showed them the colorful pictures in the book which interested them. I was glad to teach them. There was this family, with 13 siblings in which the eldest at 16 takes good care of her siblings, while their parents are at work. Their house made up of bamboo is near the sea. The eldest washes all their clothes, then gets so tired. These children do not know how to pray.”
So, the third time, some of the children in Bigue 2 went with me to Bigue 3. I taught them to make the Sign of the Cross. Even the two-year old girl joined us. I gave them fruit-candies to eat. They share and enjoyed them. (Evangeline Madayag)
