“A Night of Retro Music”: THE GUIDE, a Cursillo-inspired foundation

The Guide is that small red book containing Catholic prayers, meditations and instructions for receiving the sacraments given to candidates in a cursillo class to serve as their companion onwards the “fourth day” of their journey being Christians.

Fifteen years ago, in 2001 several cursillistas including Msgr. Leonardo Vicente and Archbishop-Emeritus Fernando R. Capalla, D.D. incorporated themselves to establish THE GUIDE FOUNDATION, INC., a non-stock, non-profit institution aimed at engaging in activities that will generate funds to support (a) the promotion of priestly vocations, (b) the needy children through various non-government organizations and private agencies, (c) relief and aid to victims of disaster and calamities, and (d) counterpart support for Christian formation and seminars particularly the cursillo classes. Hence, it is “an active participant and dynamic Catholic prayer of the Archdiocese of Davao in the enhancement of its spiritual, apostolic and social mission to promote and propagate the teachings of the Church related to faith and morals”. The founders and members being faithful Catholics were initially formed through the Cursillos.

From its establishment to the present, the Foundation has extended support to every cursillo class, to the SFX College Seminary of the Archdiocese of Davao, to the needy children under the care of Balay Pasilungan, to the children who were victims of armed conflict in Compostela Valley Province, to the DVP-Davao Chapter, to the Home for the Aged and the Abandoned run by the Sisters of Charity and to the victims of typhoon Pablo and Yolanda in Compostela, New Bataan, Monkayo and Nabunturan and in Leyte through the Archdiocesan Social Action Center of Davao. These are, but a few of what the Foundation has contributed through the help of kind hearted and generous people.
And this year, as it celebrates its 15th founding anniversary, THE GUIDE FOUNDATION is embarking on a thanksgiving fund-raising affair dubbed as “A Night of Retro Music” featuring some local talents and some from Manila who volunteered to partner with us in this fund-generating activity. This will be on September 10, 2016, 4:00 pm at the ZRA Compound, Coca-Village, Matina, Davao City. Please come and be our partner, too. With a donation of Php 300.00 you will enjoy the music and fellowship dinner with a purpose. (Bong Baldoza)
