The culture of violence starts in the home
The earliest experience of violence by babies happens when their physical needs are neglected like food and drink and physical caress. Non-stop crying of babies is a sign that they are in pain.
At an early age, children begin to learn slowly how to think, speak, listen and do some bodily gestures and movements. Violence starts when all the ways and forms of teaching and guidance are done forcefully, abruptly and roughly without gentleness, tenderness and sensitivity which should arise from love. Children are impressionable and great imitators. The cursings and vulgar words of parents and baby sitters are easily imitated.
The mentality of violence also begins with children being given toy armaments like guns, rifles, machine guns, tanks, knives, bombs, etc. Etc. This is very subtle. Most parents and elders are not aware of this influence. The manufacture of these toys and the real destructive weapons are a multi-billion business.
This business must support conflicts and wars. Otherwise they will be out of business. Consequently they must also be against peacemakers and anti-war activists. It is likewise easy to conclude that they are supporting the disappearance or murder of those promoting the culture of peace. A worse form of violence.
Another subtle form of violence is the tyranny of accumulation!. Moneyed people, both rich and not so rich, like to go shopping and buy things even if what they buy are not badly needed. I coined the word, “shopping-bitis” to sound like an irresistible disease!
But these shoppers are also victims of the violence subtly inflicted by violence of endless and relentless advertising. The artistic and creative commercials on radio, tv and newspapers are forcefully inventing artificial needs. Psychologically they are effective.
