Concert for prison welfare staged
From our God of second chances comes the gift of freedom from sin and sadness. For this and more, the Bukas Palad Music Ministry (BPMM) swayed, praised and sang with songs of freedom as they performed live in concert last September 17 at the Martin Hall of Ateneo de Davao University, Jacinto Campus.
In celebration of the Year of Mercy, the Davao Archdiocesan Commission on Prison Welfare organized “Huni sa Kagawasan”, a night of music and celebration of God’s gift of mercy and compassion.
Davao’s homegrown talent and BPMM member Kiboy Tabada described the concert as a ‘night of music and celebration of the mercy and compassion of God.’ Songs like “I Will Sing Forever”, “Anima Christi”, “In Him Alone”, and “Hindi Kita Malilimutan” were part of the repertoire.
“Ang ACPW organizers na weave ang music into a story na lahat tayo nakaka relate. Of course, merong moments of downfall natin and then comes the mercy of God, then triumph of our sins over our failure; we feel the challenge to share to others the love and compassion of God. Everyone can relate to the story.”
RECORDING SONGS
Kiboy was part of the recording of the BPMM albums “Behold the Child” in 2013 and “Light from Light” in 2012.
“We are going to release our new song, “Alleluia, God’s Name is Mercy” which will be the carrier single of a new album that we will release next year.
EVANGELIZING OFWs
As part of the group’s 30th year celebration, Tabada said that they are humbled as the group has been used as instrument for praying.
A former student of UP Diliman, Tabada added that his entry to BPMM has been made possible through an invitation. “It is open to all though it is based in Ateneo de Manila. Our involvement is about our willingness to serve in the ministry, and how we would be able to give ourselves to others.”
As full-pledge member, he gets to participate in concerts, outreach programs, and choir workshops. “We record our albums in St. Francis Xavier Studio, Ateneo de Manila under a local production house, the Jesuit Music Ministry. Then songs are made available through Spotify.”
“OFW choirs carry with them the music of Bukas Palad. That’s how people carry BP. The beauty with preaching the gospel is through music. It transcends language. It is not just the words but the melodies that other cultures will know the message of the gospel,” ended Tabada.
