HCDC U-LOL Fest Opens the Hearts and Minds of the Young

HCDC U-LOLHundreds of students from the Holy Cross of Davao College joined the annual gathering dubbed as U-LOL or You Laugh Out Loud with God and reflected on the theme: Be Merciful like the Father last May 6, 2016, at the HCDC Gymnasium.

The gathering was spearheaded by Mr. Armand Dura the Office of the Students’ Affairs Coordinator, Religious Education instructors, and the Campus Ministry. The event gathered the students from all walks of life and raised their awareness and concerns both in the civic and church involvements. The U-LOL started 3 years ago and has proven that the youth of today are still the individuals that the nation hopes them to be and that is as the transformers of the nation.

Mr. Dennis Ocon Asumbrado the head servant of Evangelization 2033 Youth Ministry, and the Marketing Manager of the Archdiocesan Commission on Social Communications was the keynote speaker of the gathering. He related the theme to the youth and delivered a talk that is full of humor and realizations on the part of the young people. Mr. Asumbrado introduced to the students who are the youth of today, who according to research is more passive, egoistic, self-centered, disrespectful, and who are facing troubles in terms of their faith. The presentation of the research opened the eyes and hearts of the young and allowed them to see themselves from the point of view of others. The talk concluded with Sir Dennis’ invitation to the young people to value their families and see how God loves and to put away these negative characteristics and vibes and be more like God – a merciful being.

Activities such as group sharing, animations, worshipping, and a pilgrimage walk from HCDC to San Pedro Cathedral where the closing Mass was held were among the activities that made the event worth remembering. Follow-up activities according to Mr. Dura are being set such as civic involvements and ministry works for their students who wish to continue serving God. (Jecy Opada)
