Protestants and Roman Catholics Pray for Christian Unity

For one week, from Feb. 14-21, 2016, Protestant Pastors, Roman Catholic Priests together with their lay leaders came together to pray for Christian Unity with the theme: “Called to proclaim the mighty acts of the Lord” (cf. 1 Peter 2:9).

They held their prayers followed by fellowship dinner in four Protestant Churches, namely: United Methodist Church in Obrero, Episcopal Church in Matina, Philippine Independent Church in F. Torres Street, United Church of Christ in the Philippines, Brokenshire Heights, Madapo Hills.

Three Roman Catholic Churches were also the venues of the Prayer for Christian Unity which are the following: San Pedro Cathedral, St. Jude Parish Church, Malvar and Camp Quintin Merecido Chapel (formerly Camp Catitipan), Philippine National Police Region XI Office in Buhangin.

This year’s Week of Prayer for Christian Unity celebration in Davao city was spearheaded by Fr. Pedro P. Lamata for the Roman Catholics and Pastor Roger Lofranco for the Protestants.

The presence and participation of Most Rev. Romulo G. Valles, Archbishop of Davao and Msgr. Leonardo Vicente, Parish Priest of San Pedro Cathedral of roman Catholic Archdiocese of Davao and Bishop Demmy Dapitan of the Philippine Independent Chruch added color and grace to the celebration.
