Seminary honors friends, launches coffee table book
The St. Francis Xavier Regional Major Seminary of Mindanao (REMASE) has honored the Friends of REMASE during their annual gathering, February 20.
The “Friends of REMASE” is a group composed of individuals and families who have committed to help the Seminary through their contributions and pledges to help defray expenses in the operation of the facility and its objective of molding future priests who will eventually take care of the Lord’s flock.
The Most Reverend Romulo G. Valles, D.D., Archbishop of Davao, was the main celebrant together with the Seminary Formators and guest priests at the Holy Eucharist for the Friends of REMASE gathering at the Chapel of the Saint Francis Xavier Regional Major Seminary of Mindanao.
In his homily, the archbishop lauded the individuals and groups who are part of the Friends of REMASE because of their help in making the seminarians fulfill their calling to the priesthood.
He added that before, when he was still a seminarian and formator of REMASE, there was no Friends of REMASE institutionalized but now it is already there and they are happy for the many gifts that they receive through the support of the group.
This annual gathering formally launched in February 2010 by Archbishop Emeritus of Davao Fernando R. Capalla, D.D. is the Seminary Formator’s and Seminarians’ way of thanking the benefactors who have been contributing their time, talent and treasure to this cause.
A dinner and a short program prepared by the Seminarians followed. The Procurator of the Seminary, Fr. William Cajes, also gave a report on the status of the contributed funds.
Serving as highlight during the evening was the launching of the Coffee Table Book “REMASE @ 50” which according to the Rector Msgr. Abel C. Apigo, will help remind future generations of the history of the Seminary.
“We want to tell the story of REMASE to the next generation, those who are not with us when we celebrate it, how happy we were during the golden jubilee. Every page of the coffee table book speaks of the glory of the past,” Msgr. Apigo said.
“When they flip the pages of the coffee table book, the future generation will know how we recall, how we marvel and how we serve. This is our tangible and visible manner how we glorify God in the Golden Jubilee year,” he concluded. (Brenda P. Milan and John Frances C. Fuentes)
