In commemoration of the 24th World Day of the Sick and Elderly and in the Spirit of the Extraordinary Year of Mercy, a Holy Mass will be held at San Pedro Cathedral on Thursday, February 11, 2016, Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes, at 8:00 am to be presided by Archbishop Romulo G. Valles, DD.Before the mass there will be hearing of confessions and anointing of the Sick and Elderly. Everyone especially those who have sick people under their care and those in the medical field are encouraged to attend the Holy Mass.
In the different parishes of the Archdiocese, there will also be parochial celebrations for the Sick and Elderly.
In a letter from Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines Episcopal Commission on Health Care, Fr. Rodolfo Vicente Cancino Jr., MI, Executive Secretary addressed all Cardinals, Archbishops/Bishops and Diocesan Administrators to Celebrate the 24th World Day of the Sick which is a feast day of the Roman Catholic Church as instituted by Pope John Paul II on May 13, 1992.
“Beginning on February 11, 1993, it is celebrated every year on the commemoration of Our Lady of Lourdes, for all believers seeks to be a ‘special time of prayer and sharing of offering one’s suffering,’” he wrote.
The theme for this year’s celebration is Entrusting Oneself to the Merciful Jesus like Mary: “Do whatever he tells you.” (Jn. 2:5). This would be a concrete and good celebration of the Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy, the Year of Family and the Year of the Eucharist.
