Xavier relic makes Tibungco parish unique

Rev. Fr. Severino A. Capulong, Jr. trailblazed a milestone in leading the golden jubilee anniversary celebration of St. Francis Xavier Parish, last December 6, 2015. Religious and secular endeavors were undertaken with fervor culminating in a showcase of talents by the parishioners of Tibungco.

Other fiesta highlights included the Mass with Abp. Valles which was attended by 5,000 people. Abp. Valles who just visited the Macau Catholic Cathedral where the remains of St. Francis are entombed, said that the presence of the relic in the sanctuary makes the parish unique from the rest of the parishes in the Archdiocese. He congratulated the parishioners of Tibungco on the vibrancy of the Catholic faith being felt already for 50 years.

The solemn reception of the relic of St. Francis Xavier (from the Regional Major Seminary) escorted by a contingent of the honor guards of the Knights of Columbus Davao North Assembly 3436 (based in Tibungco), Renaissance Night, and the Grand Raffle draw culminated the affair. The inaugural fiesta day of Tibungco parish was on December 3, 1965. Fr. Ben upon assumption of position as a parish priest on June 1, 2012, recommended that the fiesta date be moved to the nearest Sunday before or on December 3.
