Synod’s call: To safeguard family
The Archbishop of Davao shared his experiences and impressions on the recently-concluded Synod on Family in Rome to the lay leaders of Davao at the CAP auditorium last November 27. He emphasized that there were no changes in the Traditional Faith. The Synod drafted the topic: The Vocation and the Mission of the Family in the Church and the Contemporary World (XIV 2015).
Catholic Faith Defenders and Latin Mass Society representative Ryan Mejillano said: “Archbishop Valles narrated what had transpired during his trip and as if we were also journeying with him throughout his talk/sharing.”
“The Synod according to him quoting St. John Paul II is the fruitful expression and instrument of episcopal collegiality. It also offers the Pope to hear his brother bishops in helping him to provide concrete ways to safeguard and strengthen the faith of the faithful worldwide,” Mejillano added.
As to the application of what he learned, Mejillano opined: “Attending talks like this is one of the expressions of being part of the Church in Davao (local). I will try my best to faithfully teach (catechesis) and to defend (apologetics) the sanctity of family which is threatened and attacked exponentially by the enemies of Life. Stay internally aligned while externally focused.”
