How do we live today?
Simple, yet a striking question that needs to be answered. As a youth, I have asked myself, how am I living today? Am I still on the right track? Do I still value the morals taught to me by my parents? Am I still serving God? Am I busy building His Kingdom? Do I long for a position to be acknowledged by others? Am I serving for God’s glory?
How do we live today? When everybody’s personality seems to be measured by the FB Likes online, how do we value the core of our being?
As I witnessed the cultural night at the Metro Xavier Fiesta last Wednesday, December 2, I can’t help but be amazed as they interpreted on the theme: “Sa Eukaristiya maghiusa ta uban ni san Francisco atong Giya.” The show unleashed the seminarians’ potentials in acting, dancing, singing, and instruments playing and hand miming.
Apart from being entertained, I was reminded by the presentations that my parents play a great role in molding me as a person. Things aren’t the same like what we used to do in the past.
There are some people who play little gods.
There are young adults who follow their personal desires, instead of chastity and purity.
There are a lot of teenagers who choose to spend a lot of their time on the virtual world including computer games like “Clash of Clans,” rather than spending genuine chat with their families.
There are parents who busy themselves earning for their family, yet forgetting to spend quality time with their kids.
This is a reality that is happening in the core of the basic foundation of the community — the family.
The Year of the poor has ended, and we are welcoming the Jubilee Year of Mercy, Year of the Family and the Eucharist.
May 2016 be given the chance to strengthen again our family bonds, where every member be valued more personally.
May we value the Holy Eucharist which serves as a reminder to commune with our Merciful God.
May the International Eucharistic Congress bring us closer to our families on earth, as it is in Heaven, someday. (Chona M. Caga-Anan | SILP SoCCom)
