All Saints' Day

DavSur youth speak on All Saints’ Day

All Saints' DaySeveral young people from different Basic Ecclesial Communities (BEC) of the Diocese of Digos shared their viewpoints on All Saints’ Day.

“Saints were once like us—the youth,” says 19-year-old Jeany Lapeña, from GKK San Vicente Ferrer, Campo, Kapatagan, Digos City. Lapeña contended that the Saints had been on their younger lives and just like the youth, they were not perfect and they made mistakes. However, they made it to the point that their deeds were acceptable and pleasing to the eyes of God. “That is why we have this All Saints’ Day to remember the saints who served as our role models, protectors and perfect representations that just like them, we, particularly the youth could also be like them,” Lapeña added.

Roxan Granada, 16, from GKK San Isidro Labrador, Tubod, Davao del Sur said that on All Saints’ Day we are to ponder upon the holiness of life. “This is to give a chance to check on the presence of God in us as we journey in life. Moreover, this celebration challenges us to pray to become better followers of God.”

From GKK Sto. Niño, Bayanihan, Kapatagan, Digos City, Joan Grace Gama, 25, declares that it must celebrated with solemn respect. “Nowadays,” she said, “people celebrate it through travelling, getting together, etc. to the extent that they forget its true meaning—to commemorate and be inspired by their remarkable deeds, so that we could walk through their paths of righteousness.”

“All Saints’ Day means praying to God with our hearts,” says Olivia Morales, 21, from GKK Sr. Sto. Niño, Marber, Bansalan, Davao del Sur. She asserts that “every person must materialize the essence of prayer and to spend time to seek its relevance in our lives. Read the Holy Bible and go through each Word repeatedly, until the Lord’s Good News is revealed and will be imprinted in our hearts and minds.

According Hanny Gravino, 18, from GKK Nuestra Señora reveals that it is the solemn commemoration of the contributions of all saints who did good…It’s a feast of remembering how they lived their lives serving and honoring the Almighty God,” Gravino ended.

The youngsters contend that it’s high time to create new beginnings through the inspiration endowed to us by the remarkable lives of the Saints. (Loui Jay A. Pitpit | Bansalan)
