Bringing hope, love to cancer patients
The death due to cancer of Sis. Melody Soqueco, a Cursillista on November 7 did not stop the Cursillos in Christianity as they held their outreach at the House of Hope inside the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) compound. It is a home to Kids of Hope, children with cancer supported by the Davao Children’s Cancer Fund, Inc.
Many children with cancer in Mindanao do not even get to see a doctor. The reasons could be because parents believe cancer is not treatable, or because a treatment center such as the SPMC is just too far away.
The house-in-charge Ms. Kimberly Viovicente welcomed the group as well as the teachers from Talomo. A short program was held which made the kids very happy. Thus, each was given the chance to show mercy and love.
The House of Hope was founded last 2004 with the mission to “Bring Hope. Live Life. Attain Cure.” They are visited by the different groups, churches or even individuals who want to celebrate their birthdays with the children. (Tine Subang)
