Birthday and Baptismal Day
When we come out of our mother’s womb we are born into the world. When we come out from the baptismal font we are born into heaven on earth. So we celebrate the date of our natural birth. We should also celebrate the date of our birth into supernatural life.
Supernatural life is the life of grace. This grace is received in baptism. This baptismal grace is also called sanctifying grace which enables us to live the life of God which is the life of love.
Sharing the life of love is done in the context of a family, the family of God who is our Father and we are His children. This is also called spiritual adoption. So we are brothers and sisters on two counts: as humans and as Christians.
The pastoral problem here is that both our identity as humans and as Christians is not appreciated. But we do appreciate our identification! We give importance to identification and forget identity. What are human and Christian identifications?
We will discuss in the next Shalom.
