Through the inputs learned from the MEDIA BABY KA BA? Training and Support during the Institutional Journalism Seminar Workshop on August 15, 2015, the Campus Journalism Club members and officers of the college department sponsored the CamVergence (an Intramural Photojournalism Contest).

The contest was held within the duration of the college foundation week and Intramural Sports 2015 at St. Mary’s College of Bansalan, Inc. Sixteen photojournalists joined the event, September 21-24.

The contest aimed to showcase and develop the participants’ creativity in telling stories through photos, their ability to capture the action-packed events and their passionate aspects in sports and recreation.

Dean of College Dr. Evelyn Pansoy, supported the event. “I should expect the same event next year”, Pansoy said. The CamVergence highlighted the values of honesty, camaraderie, and self-discipline among college students. The entries were exhibited at room 101 on the last day of Intramurals.

Sheryl Singkala, Cedrick Simbajon and Erika Morales adjudicated the entries based on the following criteria: 25% Content (relevance to the Intramurals theme, message, caption), 20% composition (balance of elements, color), 15% technical quality (resolution, exposure) 20% creativity/originality, and 20% overall impression (wow factor, impact on viewers).

Venus Sasam from the Red Team with her photo entitled “Larong Pinoy” won the 1st place. “Sipa Pa More” by Merou Grace Avila from Pink Team got the People’s Choice Award. Her photo earned 87 likes from the viewers.

All participants were given certificates and the winners received medals with their winning photos in frames. Sasam in an interview said that she was very thankful to the organizers of the event for giving her the opportunity to show her skills in photojournalism.

Club moderator congratulated the event organizers for a job well done. “I am still willing to organize the same event next year, of course with the aid of the club officers and members”, Morales ended. (Loui Jay Pitpit | Bansalan)
