Genesis chapter 41 Joseph before Pharaoh interpreting the dream

Joseph interprets Pharaoh’s dream.

His name means “May the Lord Add.”

He saw that God was doing something much larger with his life than merely giving him a “good life” free from struggle. God blessed him with wisdom and success.

His work: Joseph had saved many lives, including those of his own family. He was a governor of Egypt and had preserved the people of God during the time of famine.

His character: He was a well-known dreamer and interpreter of dreams. He overcame great adversity to rise to a place of prominence and power in the land of Egypt. Joseph was a kind-hearted man. His long ordeal made him a strong man whose character was forced by hardships. He led the nation and forgave his brothers.

His Sorrow: Joseph had been imprisoned for a crime he did not commit. He had been sold into slavery by his brothers who hated him.

His Triumph: God used him as instrument to save and preserve their very lives as well as the lives of many others. Joseph had been reconciled with his brothers and reunited with his own father, Jacob.

Key Scripture: Genesis 37:39-50; 45:1-13

Promises:
From six calamities he will rescue you, in seven no harm will befall you, in famine He will ransom you from death.” (Job 5:19-20)

Reflection:
Joseph was a Hebrew slave and had lifted up to become ruler of the nation. His life had closed at the age of 110. In the historical event, the Egyptians considered 110 years as ideal life span which was a proof of divine blessing. He used these years to accomplish goodness.

To deepen our every prayer, we ask God to help us in forgiving those who tried to destroy us. May He give us faith to become loyal to His promises, and strength to resist temptation. We thank God for the wisdom in leading the family, community and nation. Let be our courage, faith and patience stronger with the blessings of our Almighty God. (Edgardo R. Sara | Kiblawan)
