Synergy, Stewardship and Social Communications
In his address to the participants of the First CBCP-ECSC National Media Convention held in Manila last August 11-13, Bishop Mylo Vergara, chairman of the Episcopal Commission on Social Communications (ECSC) of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), emphasized the need for synergy and stewardship in Social Communications.
Bishop Mylo called on all Catholic Media practitioners to “be honest and reliable, be loyal to friends and family, always do the right thing, and never lie, cheat or steal.” He cautioned Church media people saying that “credibility matters.”
Listening to practitioners in the field of Catholic print, broadcast, television and social media sharing their best practices serve as an inspiration for many of the participants. It is very possible for implementation in our Archdiocese.
Among those who gave their tips in media management were Fr. Anton Pascual of Caritas Manila, Mr. Edwin Lopez of EWTN, and many others.
This convention was a response to the survey conducted last year in dioceses throughout the country.
Fr. Lito Jopson, Executive Secretary, who was tasked to conduct the survey, reported the common cry of diocesan directors for a concerted effort and merging of our capacities and resources.
Hoping for a good start, this year’s convention offered sharing on the know-how and do-how components of the ministry. Next year, the convention will be held in Cebu.
As we soon open our Catholic radio station, DXGN 89.9 Spirit FM Davao, we must learn to build our network with other dioceses starting from our subregion in DADITAMA. What we have started now with our print and social media needs to be enhanced and strengthened. (Fr. R. Gamaya D.C.D.)
