Bansalan College Helps Adopted Community

Answering the challenges and heading the call for the Year of the Poor, St. Mary’s College of Bansalan, Inc. (SMCBI) reached out to an adopted community, Purok Sampalok, Poblacion Uno, Bansalan Davao del Sur, recently.

The activity in collaboration with the school’s administration represented by S. Ma. Letecia Mendoza, RVM, Campus Ministry Office (CMO) College Department, National Service Training Program (NSTP) Officers, Student Executive Board (SEB) under the supervision of the Student Activity Coordinator, Ms. Maria Clarissa D. Berso, Centeno Medical Specialist Hospital Inc. represented by Norjeane Rezel Caparida, R.N., Dean of College, Evelyn Ephan-Pansoy, PhD., and Community Involvement Program (CIP) officers was supervised by CIP Coordinator, Mr. James R. Linao.

Series of lectures were given to the residents of Purok Sampalok such as the following: “Strengthening of Faith and Devotion to Blessed Virgin Mary and to the Foundress of the Religious of Virgin Mary (RVM), Venerable Ignacia del Espritu Santo” by this writer, “Maintaining Good Health” by Norjeane Rezel Caparida, R.N., “Strengthening Family Life” by the SMCBI Dean of College, Evelyn Ephan-Pansoy, PhD and free Certificate Program lectures on Housekeeping, Baking, Cooking, Flower Arrangement, Skirting, Computer Workshop, Encoding, and Laying Out was explained. Parlor games and “ukay-ukay” made the event more exciting.

CIP Club President, Mrs. Josselle Mae S. Ociones said, “I am very happy because the plan was served well and it is good to do it again.” It is good to help them because I feel the happiness on their faces,” she added. The same feeling was expressed by one of the residents Nimfa B. Labajo as she exclaimed, “I am very happy because there are people who are willing to help us.” Mr. Linao declared that the vision and mission of the school, particularly the care for the poor and mother earth was well served during the activity since the core values of the school; faith, excellence, and service were also integrated during the activity. “Many people are willing to serve and the SMCBI community with their simple and little ways is willing to answer the challenges and call for this year of the poor and beyond.” he ended.
