Agency helps inmates become dignified
To help inmates realize their worth by facilitating activities, building a community of people in the jails who are self-reliant, faithful and dignified; by bringing Christ to the abandoned and neglected; and by making them productive members of society once again when they are released, the Davao Archdiocesan Commission on Prison Welfare (ACPW) held its General Assembly last July 18, 2015 at the Marist Sisters’ House in Juna Subd, Matina, Davao City.
Mission partners were recognized in providing volunteer services to the detainees in Davao City and Island Garden City of Samal jails during the event. Moreover, organization of working committees and discussion on urgent concerns of the volunteers also took place.
ACPW Director Rev. Fr. Christopher Ganzon, SM welcomed all the volunteers as represented from the Marist Prison Ministry, Catholic Charismatic Community, Catholic Men’s Fellowship, Couples for Christ Community, Mater et Puer Foundation, Missionaries of Charity, Mary’s Little Children Community, Gawad Kalinga, St. Francis and St. Clare School, and volunteers from parishes of St. Jude, St. Mary, and St. Francis of Assisi. Sister Sheila Manalo, SM and Mrs. Cynthia Umbana gave the orientation and brief history of ACPW. Mrs. Irene Tabada gave an overview of its Vision, Mission and the Schedule of Activities for the year.
