He is the Apostle of India.

Saint Thomas is one of the least known among the Twelve Apostles. His identity was uncovered in the Gospel of Saint John despite being mentioned in Matthew 10:3, Mark 3:18, Luke 6, and Acts 1:13.

He is called the “Doubting Thomas.” When Jesus mentioned that He is going to Jerusalem, Saint Thomas said to the disciples that “Let us also go, that we may die with him” while others were worried about His safety. (John 11: 7, 8, 16)

When Jesus was comforting His disciples in the Last Supper, He said “If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back again and take you to myself so that you may also be where I am.” Thomas said to Him, “Master, we do not know where you are going, how can we know the way?” (John 14:3-5)

Saint Thomas was not around when He resurrected and appeared to the apostles on Easter Sunday and did not believe that Christ has risen. However, he said “My Lord, My God” when he saw Jesus himself.

He built seven churches, was martyred by a spearing on the “Big Hill” near Madras, and buried in Mylapore, India. (Tiziana Celine Piatos)
