Parish SocComm readied for media mission
Article 16 of the revised GKK Guidelines and Norms states that “The GKK should have a Social Communications Committee (SoCCom) which shall be composed of a Secretary, as head of the Committee, and two (2) or three (3) members. The Secretary shall be chosen by the GKK members while the two (2) or three (3) members shall be appointed by the six (6) GKK leaders mentioned in Article 12. Major functions include: record keeping, documenting/facilitating of GKK communications.”
Challenged by this mission, this pastoral agency has called on the support of all parish priests to appoint and to send for meetings and training their social communications team in order to achieve the said archdiocesan’s mandate.
Firstly, the SocCom office initially discussed with those who were appointed their training needs. So, after series of meetings the Media Baby ka ba? (Training Modules 1 and 2) were given them last June 27.
The event which was hosted by the St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Ma-a gathered 39 Parish SocCom Representatives from 18 parishes. The content of the write shop included Orientation to Social Communications, Journalism (Feature Writing and Bisaya Journalism). The 39 participants also evaluated the new look of the DC Herald news magazine.
Moreover, the team’s greatest achievement that day was the drafting of the One-year Plan which highlights the following that Social Communications Committee must do:
- Participation to Information Drive to Parish and GKKs;
- Attendance to Media/Communication Training;
- Marketing of DC Herald and Spirit FM to GKKs;
- Publication of Parish Newsletters;
- Strengthening of Parish Soccom Structure;
- Recruitment of more Members especially the Youth.
- Assistance to Fund-raising campaigns for SocCom activities.
Currently, the section at DC Herald entitled, “Ronda Parokya” is being filled up regularly by the Parish SocComm in which this office is very grateful of. Next week, we will publish the names of your Parish Social Communications Commitee. The next training (News writing and Photojournalism) is initially set on August 8.
