On DC Herald’s New Tagline
Worshipping. Teaching. Serving.
You might ask why use this as tagline of DCHerald.
A tagline (or tag line) is a small amount of text which serves to clarify a thought for, or designed with a form of, dramatic effect. Many tagline slogans are reiterated phrases associated with an individual, social group, or product. As a variant of a branding slogan, taglines can be used in marketing materials and advertising.
In our desire to make DCHerald become better as the mouthpiece of the local Church of Davao and an instrument of evangelization reflective of the vocation of our faithful, the tres munera Christi was chosen as our new byline. This came out after a thorough assessment and consultation from our dedicated and supportive experts and readers.
The reasons for this change are the following: 1) the nature of Catholic media; 2) the Vision, Mission and Goals of the Commission; and 3) the collaterals of our publication.
The first reason is inspired by the Pontifical Council on Social Communications which makes us understand what Catholic media is all about. On February 22, 1992 on the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of Communio et Progressio, a Pastoral Instruction on Social Communications entitled Aetatis Novae was released.
Second, the Vision-Mission and Goal statement of the Davao Verbum Dei Media Foundation, Incorporated (DVDMFI) adopts the image of a community of disciples of Jesus Christ in the Archdiocese of Davao. As publisher of DCHerald and the policy-making body of the Commission on Social Communications of the Archdiocese of Davao, DVDMFI imbibes the Catholic view of social communications. It commits to propagate the Christ-life towards a renewed integral evangelization and to restore and strengthen cultural values and total transformation.
And third, the need to revise our tagline is in “view of the idea that it is a statement of intent, as well as capturing in few words the missionary spirit that has informed the work of the publication.” This revision was also done considering the unity and integrity of our paper in relation to our other media of social communications, particularly that of broadcast and of social media.
Hoping to let you understand more the details of each of these reasons, please follow us in our upcoming issues. (Fr. Ritsche J. Gamaya, DCD)
