Condemnation and appeal for public cooperation in relation to slay attempt on prov’l NCIP chief
City of Mati Chief of Police, P/S Ariel B. Acala is strongly appealing to the public for help in tracking down the culprits to the Nat’l Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) Prov’l Chief Julius Mabini slay attempt, which also cost the life of a companion, Bienvenido Madanlo, and wounding another, Silvestre Pusta in the evening of June 1, 2015. “We appeal to the public to help us, as we are really determined to solve the crime. We appeal to the tricycle drivers who witnessed the crime, as seen in the CCTV footage, to say their piece. Any information is of great help in our relentless pursuit against the perpetrators,” he said. However, Acala assured the constituents that the spate of shooting incidents in the City is not something to be alarmed at, while also stressing that peace and order is everybody’s concern, “considering the constraints, like we have only 66 policemen to serve and protect the more than 100,000 residents of the City of Mati.” It can be recalled that on the crime date, Mabini was sharing the ride with Madanlo, while Pusta drove another motorcycle, when followed by the attackers riding in tandem until the victims reached the crime site. After the shooting incident, the attackers fled, while concerned citizens rushed the victims first to the Davao Oriental Prov’l Medical Center, then to St. Camillus Hospital, after which they were brought to Davao City, where the two survivors (Mabini and Pusta) were later restored to stable condition. Gov. Corazon Malanyaon, as well as Mayor Carlo Rabat and the Mati Media force led by DXHM/DXDV/TCTV Catholic news team vehemently condemned the shooting incident. In an interview, Malanyaon called for unity and trust in God: “We should be one. We should strengthen our convergence, and the fact that God is with us always should be our motivation in going on through life.”
Army ug sa Davao Or. Provincial Police Office (DOPPO).
Environment Month underlines measures to protect Mother Earth and promote Eco-Tourism
The month of June is very important to the people of Davao Oriental, “with all the reasons to celebrate and be grateful for everything Mother Earth has bestowed on the province, all throughout its existence,” words of Ms. Cynthia Rodriguez, Provincial Consultant on Tourism Affairs, in an interview with DXHM/DXDV news, adding that “the provincial government is never resting on its laurels to come up with measures to protect and save nature, as the province is now at the verge of aggressive promotion on eco-tourism.” It is noteworthy that throngs of excited and curious residents and visitors alike visit various places in the province to see for themselves the beautiful metamorphosis after the wrath wrought by typhoon Pablo. Just recently, the improvement to the Aliwagwag falls in Cateel was launched, composed of additional facilities, the construction of an Eco-Park, and the zipline ride. Also, the Baganga Sunrise Boulevard never fails to awe the people taking a breathtaking view of the sun rising from where the boulevard is constructed. Soon to complement the aggressive eco-tourism promotion is the improvement on Pusan Point, Brgy. Santiago, Caraga, the site where the sun first shed light in 2000. What makes June more auspicious for Davao Oriental is that it was on June 23, 2014 when the Mt. Hamiguitan Range and Wildlife Sanctuary in San Isidro (Batobato) was inscribed to the renowned list of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites, a most prestigious recognition a country could get. The Mt. Hamiguitan Eco-Park has been constructed and would cater to the public that will flock to have a spectacular sight of the heritage site now recognized worldwide. Adding to the emblem of Mt. Hamiguitan’s abundance in endangered species, a Philippine Eagle was released on June 12, 2015.
Mt. Hamiguitan was one of the blessings recounted by Fr. Danilo C. Fuentes, parish priest, in the 50th parochial fiesta celebration of San Isidro Labrador Parish last May 15, 2015, under the theme “Celebrating the Past, Shaping the Future,” as he also thanked all 64 GKK members and workers of the parish, and acknowledged the great contribution of the previous parish priests as well as the gov’t officials, who, in the words of Gov. Corazon N. Malanyaon on the same occasion, “had served well the people like a shepherd of a God-fearing and law-abiding human herd of faithful Christians…so that the parish will continue to be a guiding star to light the way for the guidance of all towards the path of the Lord.” (Sr. Marietta Alo, OND and Neela Duallo)
