Catholic Media
As we promised in our last issue in this column, here are further explanations of our reason for having our new tagline: worshipping, teaching, serving.
Catholic Media. “Catholic media work is not simply one more program alongside all the rest of the Church’s activities: social communications have a role to play in every aspect of the Church’s mission (Aetatis Novae, 17).
The type of apostolate we intend for DCHerald is communications apostolate. What it wishes to communicate is the entire life of the Church, namely the Church as worshipping, teaching and serving. The identity of the Church that empowers this apostolate is the worshipping, teaching and serving Church. This identity is reflected in our publication.
What the Church wishes to proclaim through social communications media is not only her teaching function but also worshipping and service ministry. But in practicing its prophetic ministry to proclaim the Good News, this communication apostolate itself should also observe prayer and devotion, charity and community extension services in line with its expertise and promotions.
“Thus, not only should there be a pastoral plan for communications, but communications should be an integral part of every pastoral plan, for it has something to contribute to virtually every other apostolate, ministry, and program” (Aetatis Novae, 17).
In all Church’s apostolate, which may be strictly labeled as worshipping or teaching or serving, there is always an aspect and a necessity of communications media. All the good programs of Church’s apostolates need the medium of social communications. Hence, these programs which carry the worshipping, teaching and service ministry of the Church are brought available through our paper. Our media of communications, print in this case, brings to people the three-fold faith-life experience of the faithful. (To be continued)
