Non-negotiables in Marriage (Mati Newsbits)
Non-negotiables in Marriage
TWO “Non-negotiables” in Marriage were pointed out by Fr. Nestor B. Morata in his homily on the occasion of the Silver Wedding Anniversary of Mayo Z. Almario ang Nancy S. Diez at the Monastery Church of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Tuatua, Mati City, May 10, 2015.
These are: 1.) “Marriage is a Special Contract of Permanent Union between a man and a woman entered into in accordance with law for the establishment of conjugal and family life” (Family Code of the Philippines), and 2.) “Marriage is a covenant, by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership of their whole life, and which of its very nature is ordered to the well-being of the spouses, to the procreation and upbringing of children” (Canon 1055 of the Catholic Church).
In addition, Fr. Morata underlined the human expression of love as sharing in the love God has given us in the person of Jesus Christ, saying that “this continued sharing and giving of oneself also demands transparency and honesty, important elements to make the married life fruitful and meaningful.”
Meanwhile, he stressed that “legal separation and divorce are acts harmful to the married life…parents are pro-life and pro-love.”
Most Rev. Patricio H. Alo, D.D. presided over the Eucharistic Celebration and the Rite of Renewal of Marriage Vows, as he too officiated at their marriage 25 years ago in the Cathedral of Mati.
The Bridal Entourage also had most of the same persons that participated in the Rite 25 years ago, of course with the addition of four children. Fr. Morata took the place of Fr. Danilo C. Fuentes who could not make it on that day, and a joyful celebration with singing, dancing and games ensued after the Mass.
