HISTORY
1970s
- Youth started to be disinterested in the Church’s service during Martial Law due to increased crime rate, illiteracy, and leftist movements.
- The late Abp. Mabutas felt the need to organize the youth, as the thrust of the archdiocese then was building small Christian communities.
1980s
- Archdiocesan Youth Council was handled by 1st leader Mr. Bruce Laguesma. AYC was later named: Davao Archdiocesan Youth Coordinating Apostolate (DAYCA).
- Milestone included: Archdiocesan Youth Pastoral Assembly of Davao (AYPAD). This brought unity among youth from parishes, transparochial communities, and schools.
1990s
- Abp. Fernando Capalla was installed in November 1996.
- DAYCA served as the coordinating body.
- Attention was given to the young. In fact, he gave DAYCA three spiritual directors.
2000s
- Vision-mission redefined.
- New logo was introduced.
- Youth program was heard on-air via DXGN FM.
- Youth Festival and National Youth Day 2006 were organized.
2012
- DAYCA identified approaches and strategies to combat negative effects of media and
other technology; produced and circulated Kalakbay Newsletter. - Revisited VMG and expanded service to out-of-school youth, young professionals, and indigenous peoples.
Now
- Handles Kalakbay Youth Corner of DCHerald
- Continues to calibrate and update systems to reach the youth in the GKKs.
