HCCC believes, ‘Cleanliness is next to Godliness’
The Holy Cross College of Calinan (HCCC) recently won the 3rd Lunhaw Awards, an annual award that recognizes and rewards Dabawenyos implementing sustainable green and eco-friendly initiatives. In line with its vision and mission, the students and employees commit themselves to a healthy environment through fun and creative ways of waste management. The “Basketbottle Bin” for example, is a bin that resembles a basketball ring with a cylinder shaped container for plastic bottles. The bins are located at apparent places around the campus to encourage the students to throw their plastic bottles appropriately inside the bins.
The institution also supports the crucial involvement of the students in making the school a healthy environment for learning through motivating and allowing their student leaders to come up with activities and implement rules with regard to achieving a clean and green environment. In addition, the student council officers effectively conduct competitions that develop students’ creativity such as producing products made of recycled materials.
The students’ active participation on extending a helping hand to beautify the surroundings such as repainting the garbage bins themselves, is truly worthy not just to be acknowledged but to be followed as well by their fellow youth in the community. God’s creation must be taken with great care and with His constant guidance, the school’s student council officers, known as the Junior Executive Council officers, are able to unify the student body into embracing the idea that truly, “Cleanliness is next to Godliness.” (Theresa Marie Dumandan)
