IMPLORING DIVINE MERCY IN ATONEMENT OF SINS

TODAY, Sunday, we all mark the commemoration and feast day of the Divine Mercy with the faithful, especially the less fortunate, the poor and those in great need, all seeking God’s blessings from the overflowing graces of the Lord’s limitless capacity to forgive and imploring Divine Mercy for deliverance, pardon and relief.

Many Filipinos who are ardent devotees will flock shrines like here in El Salvador, not the Latin American country, but the small city in the province of Misamis Oriental in Mindanao. It is home to the 50-foot “Statue of the Divine Mercy” that is said to be tallest of its kind not only in this predominantly Catholic country of the Philippines, but in the whole world. The city serves as a pilgrimage site for the many Divine Mercy devotees, thus, earned the title as “The City of Mercy” or “City of The Savior.”

In Davao City, San Pedro Cathedral will be flocked by the people today at 3:00 in the afternoon in prayer and supplication offering the “body, blood, soul and divinity” of the Lord Jesus in atonement for the sins of the whole world. The devotion to the Divine Mercy offers the sorrowful passion of Jesus Christ to the Father and seeks mercy for all humankind. It places all trust on the Lord with the prayerful incantation: “O Divine Mercy, We Trust in You.” (Jess Dureza/Olan Emboscado)
